Australia's popular jazz vocalist Janet Seidel takes the listener on a personal trip with every song and her quietly achieved renown has been largely due to her way of interpreting a song.

The Sydney based Janet Seidel Trio has a new CD coming up, with the title Far Away Places - their take on a theme prompted by the title track, a 1940s hit song evoking the yearning to be whisked away to another time and space.

The notion of musical wanderlust was ever a romantic one and possibly never more so than in early stages of the age of international travel. The mere glimpse of a bongo, a ukelele, a palm tree, was enough to visualise blissful escape. These were simpler times.

And so with the Trio's natural bent for finding a fresh sound within a retro style, the repertoire takes in a mix of vintage songs, old school world music if you like, and songs that dreamily transport the listener to another headspace.

Expect a minimalist approach to a nostalgic journey featuring Janet's unique and personal vocals, touches of piano and rich acoustic guitar / ukulele and double bass from Chuck Morgan and David Seidel respectively.

Repertoire may include:

Far Away Places, La Paloma, Midnight Sun, Moon River,  Golden Slumbers, Sand in My shoes, La Javanaise, Autumn in New York, Historia de un Amor, Recado Bossa Nova, When we were young (Janet's words to a Japanese classic from the 40's), and more.
